LIB Fringe Festival

In 2016 we were delighted that the 8oz Burger Company, based in The Arcade, allowed us to stage activities that took place both inside and outside their restaurant under cover of the Arcade roof. This was curated by Hayley Ann Youell, keyboard player with local band, Aztec Doll, and an artist that works with the local charity, Creative Recovery, this years chosen charity for the 2017 Fringe Festival.

2016 featured Creative Recovery’s popular street piano singalongs, also Matt Townsend of Rudimental Drums, held a drum workshop for young budding drummers and a demonstration by some of his students. There was also a samba band workshop and performance by Barnsley Percussion Ensemble. Where anyone could experience playing in a Brazilian style samba band, all they had to do was just turn up and join in. Other local acoustic musicians also joined in with the fun by playing impromptu sets throughout the day.

We’ve always wanted to expand the festival to include other arts and this year everything seems to be finally falling into place for that to happen.

In 2017 we would like to include more non-music arts and we have already spoken to local painters, poets, spoken word, graffiti artists, dance troupes, choirs, , buskers, actors, street theatre, sculptors etc. who have expressed an interest in joining us with ideas of their own to create a wider arts festival. We plan on utilising public spaces around the town such as Mandela Gardens, Grahams Orchard and the streets of the town centre. We would love to involve more local businesses and showcase even more of the artistic talent that Barnsley and surrounding areas has to offer.
